Growing up has been hard for me. My dad past away when I was nine years old and since then my life has twisted and turned every way possible. I lived with my mum, stepdad, four brothers, two step brothers and younger sister but still felt alone. I couldn't talk to them and I had no one.

Sarah's story

When Sarah’s adoptive mother moved to France with her new partner Sarah moved in with her boyfriend but the relationship broke down and she had to move out. Sarah was diagnosed with hearing problems and her mother approached some organisations which helped deaf people to find somewhere to live and they referred her to the YMCA in Southampton.

Kelly's story

Kelly moved out of her parent’s home at the age of 17yrs to move in with her aunt & uncle. Whilst living there Kelly’s life was turned upside down as she became the victim of a serious sexual assault by her grandfather.  Soon after the incident her uncle decided he no longer wanted her in the house and told her to leave. She was then homeless for a period of 1 month before moving into the YMCA.

Emma's story

Emma felt that she was ready to move out of home as it was very stressful there for her. She felt she needed to move out and gain more independence as well as being supported at the same time. This would help her make something of her life and build her confidence. Emma felt that if she didn’t move out of home then she would get kicked out.
