Kelly moved out of her parent’s home at the age of 17yrs to move in with her aunt & uncle. Whilst living there Kelly’s life was turned upside down as she became the victim of a serious sexual assault by her grandfather. Soon after the incident her uncle decided he no longer wanted her in the house and told her to leave. She was then homeless for a period of 1 month before moving into the YMCA.
Kelly’s father left her mother when she was only a few months old. Her mother then re-married. When Kelly was 11yrs old her younger sister died. From that time on her mother and stepfather treated Kelly very badly. Since the time of her grandfather sexually assaulting Kelly, her mother and stepfather have totally disowned her. Kelly would love to have contact with her biological father and has tried on numerous occasions to find out more about him but to no avail.
Kelly left school at the age of 16yrs with good GCSE results. She then went on to college to study Childcare, which she found interesting. However, soon after starting the course she realised she was going down the wrong career path and gave up the course. She is now hoping to find employment in administration.
Kelly was very quiet at first but has since opened up and is very friendly and talkative. Kelly’s setbacks have left her quite vulnerable and insecure at times but never the less does tend to cope well and has a positive outlook to life. She has had counselling to help her work through the issues connected to the sexual assault she suffered. She decided to stop going after a couple of sessions, but is now looking to start them again. The only member of her family she is in contact with is an aunt who has supported her over the last year.
At first, Kelly was quite nervous about meeting new people, but has settled in well at the YMCA. She gets on well and has started to make new friends with other residents. She has completed a 6-week ‘Get that job’ course and is the process of completing a CLATE course. Kelly has also just recently been nominated a tenant representative, which we believe will help to increase her confidence.
In the future Kelly would like to become a secretary. Never the less she is aware that she would have to start at the bottom of the ladder before she can achieve this goal. Kelly likes a challenge in her work, as well as her life, and has a very determined outlook to her future.
